SMM estimates that this adjustment will lead to a 2.55% increase in the total cost of nickel pig iron. Simultaneously, the Indonesian government plans to impose export tariffs on processed nickel products, further strengthening export controls on nickel resources.

Global nickel resources are highly concentrated in Indonesia (accounting for nearly 65%), and nickel accounts for 42% of the raw material cost of stainless steel. Therefore, the implementation of the HPM policy signifies a fundamental shift in the past market's pricing logic of "solely following LME nickel prices," with Indonesian policy becoming the new anchor for stainless steel pricing.

On April 13th, Tsingshan took the lead in raising its export price for 304 stainless steel hot-rolled products by $25 per ton. As cost pressures are passed down downstream, the global stainless steel price center is expected to shift further upward.
